Thanksgiving?
by freeflyingfaerie inhere in the u.s. of a., come one week from today, families will come together to feast in celebration of the day in 1621 when pilgrims and native americans shared feasting for three days... ...and then the natives were slaughtered and driven out of the lands in the coming years.
i wondered if native americans themselves celebrate thanksgiving... (interesting findings out there).
cast your votes as to whether or not i'm a freakazoid for not celebrating it!

We are going to have a nice meal here at home with daughter and her daughter. Grandkid asked if we were going to celebrate this holiday. She is 14 and has never celebrated anything, but she's out of the cult now and ready to enjoy all the good stuff Americans are free to do!!! i am so happy to be alive to see these holidays, this year!

Comment made by an uber dub aunt
by joe134cd inok i've read similar threads to this before, but i just thought i would share a comment made by an aunt.
my aunts bible student died, and due to the families wishes the funeral service was given in another church.
my aunt with a disgusted look on her face when recalling the events to me said "and you know what, they must of only spent about 5 minutes talking about the person, and the rest of it was about the church".

I've attended several wt funerals and heard some kind of griping from friends at each one of them, that it was hard to have to spend MORE of their day off free time to go to another meeting. I made it well known that neither my husband or I would have any memorial service. Then was criticized for THAT! Because our deaths should be used to give a witness to non believing relatives and acquaintances!

More WT Propaganda: Low Paying Jobs are OK for Family Heads. Just "Don't Miss the Meetings!"
by Oubliette ingod, evidently, wants you to be poor: .
a newly baptized brother is married, and he and his wife have three small children.
one day, a workmate suggested that he and the brother move to another company that paid a higher wage and provided more benefits.

People who sluff off a better paying job so they will have time to work for a publishing company, and thus need help from the government, are a great reason why the WT needs to pay taxes!

Since leaving the truth, do you celebrate holidays, and does your participation in such bring you happiness?
by Stand for Pure Worship ini ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.

The TRUTH is that people can and should do whatever they want to do without worrying about some bogus authority judging whether they are "good" or not.
My grandkid has told of her father and stepmother's arrangement for "gift exchange" every year, which takes place well out of town in a rented cabin that just happens to have a decorated Christmas tree in the living room. There they meet up with the stepmother's family, cook a big meal and unwrap presents. But they're not celebrating Christmas, oh my goodness, NO!
Hypocrite much?

The murmuring phase is the beginning of an ex-JWs progression towards fading.
by Stand for Pure Worship ini suppose part of the fascination i have with this board is, the exotic nature of those making up the member population.
i say exotic because, as you yourselves will agree with, folks such as yourselves don't hang around the christian congregation for long upon making the decision that truth is not for you.
(rom 1:25) this "fading" thing spoken of here likely plays a role into why christians such as me find the average ex-jw to be a bit fascinating.

Never forget - i will never allow myself or my family to forget what was done to us by the criminal cult of the WT JW's. The way they "reason" is just a container of crap; thanks for the reminder, @standsforpureworship.
I ran into a JW a few days ago in town, who used to greatly intimidate me. As I answered her greeting, I realized I felt totally indifferent to her. No dislike of her or worry about her opinion of me, just nothing. I think that indicates healing and progress out of the mind control, for which I owe a huge debt to the help I've received here on this forum.

Wasting Time In The Ministry--How Did You Do It??
by minimus ini know of a couple of elders that regularly went out in the ministry throughout the week.
no matter which street they were on, they always seemed to be near the same spot.
someone here talked about the michael jackson moonwalk.

I hated field circus (i read that phrase on this forum and love it). I felt so guilty for many years for hating it. I told everyone i knew that I hated it, any elder who spoke to me knew I hated it. So they can't claim I was dishonest. They all told me that everyone hates it if they don't do it enough to get used to it.
But when I increased my hours I hated seeing all those same faces every morning. There were so many of them that irritated me no end! So many jw think they can drive and read their territory maps at the same time - I'd like to holler at them, YOU CANNOT DRIVE AND READ AT THE SAME TIME, YOU IDIOT!
I was in my 30s and 40s and 50s doing this. The born-ins and pio's always condescended to tell me how my attitude was wrong, how i could improve, blah blah. Having mini-elders in their teens talk down to me, what a warm feeling that gives you! I knew it wasn't their fault.
Old "confused" elders sending me to a house that they knew the householder was violently opposed. Coming back to the car after being screamed at, finding the elder laughing so hard he was wetting himself. That was joyous.
Then after the big thing happened in our family, lots of troubles with the grandkid and ex-son in law, elders treating us so unfairly - I went out a couple times after that but always thinking, "What kind of horrible thing am I inviting people into?!" Yes, join a bunch of hypocrites, backstabbing, gossiping, ungrateful, mean, stingy, judgmental, and in many cases immoral. Come learn how to "help" people! Then when they get kicked in the teeth, tell them they must not have enough faith. uhuh.
